Bring a photo ID along with a second form of identification (else bring two non-photo forms of ID); bring your original FCC license and a photocopy of your license (if you are currently licensed); bring the original and a copy of any Certificate(s) of Successful Completion of Examination (CSCEs); if necessary, bring a scientific calculator (that does not have the ability to store formulas); bring a pen and two pencils; and be sure to bring payment for the test fee if charged by the VEC.
By presenting an original, current FCC-license, the following exam credit will be conveyed to the applicant by the VE Team:
Novice - Elements 1A and 2 Technician (dated after 2/14/91) - Elements 2 and 3A (*)Technician (dated before 3/21/87) - Elements 1A, 2, 3A and 3B Technician Plus - Elements 1A, 2 and 3A General - Elements 1B, 2, 3A and 3B Advanced - Elements 1B, 2, 3A, 3B and 4A Extra - All elements Footnote:
(*) For grandfather Element 3B credit, only an original license or a copy which was issued on or before 3/21/87 is acceptable by VEs. VECs may be able to allow such credit based upon an original CSCE issued on before that date which shows Element 3 credit for passing the (then) 50 question Technician/General written test. If such documentation has been destroyed, the FCC will itself issue the necessary verification. To obtain such verification, acceptable by all VE Teams and VECs, write to FCC and request a "Letter of Verification of Technician License Held Prior To March 21, 1987". Mail (or fax 717-337-1541) your request to: FCC, 1270 Fairfield Rd, Gettysburg PA 17325-7245. If you include reference to a fax number in your reply, the FCC will fax your verification letter to you. Normal turnaround at FCC is 3-5 business days after receipt.
By presenting an original Certificate of Successful Completion of Examination (CSCE), the following credit is conveyed:
* For Technician licensees: A CSCE showing Element 1A, 1B or 1C credit qualifies the holder for Technician Plus HF privileges. The CSCE may have been issued more than 365 days earlier.
* For others: A CSCE issued up to 365 days earlier conveys credit for the element(s) shown as passed. A Physician's Certification on a Form 610 is acceptable by a VE Team for 365 days after the Physician's signature date. Once accepted by the VE Team, assuming the applicant qualifies for a General or Advanced license, a CSCE is issued showing Element 1C (or "Physician's Cert. and Release: 1C") credit is valid for 365 days toward an Extra class license.
Although the test session information presented here does not indicate whether walk-ins are accepted or not, most test sessions do allow walk-ins. Contact the CONTACT PERSON for the date and time of the next testing session. It is HIGHLY recomended that you always contact the CONTACT PERSON at the telephone number provided so that the VE Team is aware that you be attending the test session.
The FIRST field in the following listing specifies the VEC which is coordinating this examination. This single-character designator denotes the VEC as defined below. An "A" (for example) indicates that this examination is coordinated by the ARRL/VEC.
